CRIP LIT Summer ~school

£100.00 - £300.00

CRIP LIT Summer ~school is a 6 session course, held over 12 weeks, in which we read texts through a crip lens and examine what a crip literature is and can do. We have picked 6 topics that we as facilitators are particularly interested in, though these topics are by no means exhaustive.

Across the six weeks we will cover:
- Porous boundaries and leaky bodies
- Articulating crip time
- Literary beds and lassitude
- Cripping the diagnosis resolution
- Illness in the labyrinth
- Crip fragmentation as practice and form

Each session we will screen a pre-recorded talk, given by either Jen or Char, about the selected reading, followed by a seminar group in which we will dig into the themes we have brought up and discuss the work in greater depths. The hope is to create a learning space that is discursive and interesting using crip thinking and approaches alongside the principles of Disability Justice.

COURSE WORKLOAD & CAPACITY

To get the most out of this course we strongly recommend that you read the texts under discussion, where possible we keep to shorter texts and extracts, and we will send you all the recommended reading once you sign up so you have as much time as possible to read. However, we're a crip, sick and disabled space and so we understand that being able to do all of the reading or being able to attend every session may not be possible, this is why we have also recorded the talks so that, even if you can't make the session, you can still watch the talk and do the reading at any later point.

FACILITATORS

Char Heather is the founder of the remote body, a writer and workshop facilitator, in the last year of their PhD which focuses on narrative cripping and chronic illness texts. They have a vast array of experience in workshop facilitation, particularly in crip community, alongside teaching in university seminars and adult education.

@charheatherr

Jennifer Brough (she/they) is a queer, disabled slow writer and workshop facilitator based in Nottingham. She writes poetry and short stories exploring the body, pain, and horror using a magical, surrealist lens. Jennifer founded resting up collective, an interdisciplinary group of sick artists that offers spaces for rest, resistance, and creativity.

ACCESS:

- The talks will have edited captions and BSL interpretation.
- Seminars will have auto-captions provided by Rev, which are more reliable than Zoom's built-in function.
- With advance notice we are happy to organise live BSL interpretation, just let us know in the access questionnaire. We ask for 3 weeks notice in order to organise BSL interpretation.
- You are welcome to communicate in the sessions either verbally or using the chat function and we will read out anything in the chat to the group.
- We have a pot of funds for other access needs, so if there's anything we can do or provide for you to make the space more accessible, let us know and we will do our best to meet your needs!
- Though we hope to have lots of in-depth discussion, we understand fluctuations in capacity and we invite you to be in the space as you are, you can leave your cameras off and listen to the conversation if that's what you need in any given moment.
